Celebrating Armenia's Rich Heritage: A Journey of Art and Diversity at the NCI International Festival

Embracing the Colors of Diversity

As the NCI International Festival approached, the spirit of celebration was palpable, inviting you to join Silva O'Connor, the force behind Barev Art Gallery, and the entire Nationalities Council of Indiana (NCI) in a cultural extravaganza. This event marked a milestone in her journey, serving as the inaugural representative of Armenia within the NCI.

Introducing Armenia Through Art and Beauty

For her, the festival was more than a cultural celebration; it was a poignant platform to share the beauty and rich heritage of Armenia with the people of Indiana. As the curator of Barev Art Gallery, her mission was to introduce Armenia through the captivating lens of art and beauty, bridging cultures and creating connections.

Promoting Culture, Connecting People, Providing Support

The NCI's mission resonated deeply with her aspirations. The organization, a non-profit educational foundation, brought together over 50 ethnic or national affinity organizations, along with corporations and individuals, all passionate about celebrating the diversity that defines Indianapolis. Since its inception, the NCI had tirelessly worked to promote culture, connect people across ethnic and racial lines, and provide crucial support to cultural and ethnic activities.

An Annual "Celebration of Diversity"

The NCI's flagship event, the International Festival, held each fall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, had become an eagerly awaited "Celebration of Diversity." Thousands of schoolchildren and adults alike were treated to a spectacular showcase of culinary delights, historical insights, social connections, and linguistic expressions from cultures around the world.

A Catalyst for Change

As a member of the board of directors of the NCI, Silva O'Connor played a pivotal role in amplifying the presence of Armenia within this dynamic cultural mosaic. Her active involvement went beyond supporting Armenian artists through Barev Art Gallery; it extended to a passionate commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.

Crafting the Future Together

The International Festival was not just an event; it was a milestone in the ongoing journey of connecting people, promoting cultures, and providing vital support. In her dual role as the owner of Barev Art Gallery and a member of the NCI board, she exemplified the spirit of collaboration and cultural exchange that defined the festival.

See you at the International Festival – where cultures converged, friendships flourished, and the beauty of Armenia found a new home in the hearts of Indiana. Until then, she extends her warmest appreciation to everyone who joined in this celebration of diversity.
